大山車站

Visited on September 7, 2024 As of now, in 2025, this site has a history of 103 years. It needs to be well preserved. It's entirely made of wood, so insect prevention is crucial. About 10 years ago, the front right side was damaged by a drunk person. It has now been repaired and is barely noticeable.

Opened on October 11, 1922, the Miaoli Houlong "Dashan Railway Station," formerly known as "Dashanjiao Station," primarily served rice during the Japanese colonial period. Dashan Railway Station, one of the five treasures of the Taiwan Railways' coastal line, boasts a rare surviving example of a "Japanese-Western eclectic wooden structure." The gabled roof and wooden windows are typical of wooden stations from the Japanese colonial era. Facing Dashan Station, on the right side, there's a painted wall themed "Old Countryside Scenery," serving as the "Dashan Nostalgia Trail." There are few shops on Dashan Street, save for a general store. Railway enthusiasts should bring their own lunch. I bought a bottle of mineral water at the general store and returned to the station to wait for the local train to continue on to the next stop.

A traditional train station I stumbled upon through a Google search. Because it's a small station, only local trains pass through. Low-rise Japanese-style wooden buildings. Old-fashioned train timetables. Everywhere is photogenic. While keeping up with modern technology, the station still incorporates some modern gadgets. Although they seem somewhat out of place, the station tries its best to maintain its traditional appearance. I used to travel to and from Miaoli frequently as a child. Seeing this building brought back a flood of memories. A place full of warmth and human touch.

【Five Treasures of the Coastal Line】Dashan Station, one of the five stations, is located in Houlong Township, Miaoli County, and officially opened on October 11, 1922. Originally named Dashanjiao (meaning "Foot of the Mountain"), it was renamed in April 1962 (but locals still prefer to call it Dashanjiao^^). The station building itself has a very strong Japanese style; the century-old wooden station has a truly atmospheric feel, and you can take many beautiful photos here.
